Speaker and Moderator Bios
- Africa Ariño (Speaker) is the President of the Strategic Management Society and Professor of Strategic Management Department at IESE Business School (Spain), where she holds the Joaquim Molins Figueras Chair of Strategic Alliances. In the past, she served as Associate Editor of Academy of Management Discoveries, European Management Review, and Global Strategy Journal. Her research interests include the governance and management of interorganizational relationships, with particular emphasis on strategic alliance design and dynamics.
- Pratima (Tima) Bansal (Moderator) is the Canada Research Chair in Business Sustainability, Ivey Business School (Western University, Canada). Tima’s research focuses on the dimensions of time, space and scale in business strategy that facilitate sustainable development. She is also deeply interested in the liminal space between research and practice, having founded both the Network for Business Sustainability and the Ivey Innovation Learning Lab.
- Mary Jo Bitner (Master of Ceremony, Moderator) is Professor and Edward M. Carson Chair in Services Marketing Emerita in the W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University where she also served as Executive Director of the Center for Services Leadership. Bitner’s highly-cited research focuses on the customer experience and interactions among customers, employees, and technology service settings. From 2014-2017 she served as editor of the Journal of Service Research, the top journal in service research globally.
- Ruth Bolton (Moderator) is Professor of Marketing at the W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University. She serves as President of the Sheth Foundation and on the Working Board of RRBM. She served as 2009-2011 Executive Director of the Marketing Science Institute, 2002-2005 Editor of the Journal of Marketing, and on the Board of the American Marketing Association. Her B.Comm (Hon.) is from Queen’s University (Canada), and her M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Carnegie-Mellon University.
- Michael Haenlein (Moderator) is a Professor of Marketing at ESCP Business School in Paris. His research deals with analyzing how digital technologies impact a firm’s customer relationship management activities. Michael counts among the top 1% most cited researchers in Economics and Business. Among others, he is an Area Editor at the International Journal of Research in Marketing and on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Marketing and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.
- Jeffrey Hales (Speaker) is on faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is the Charles T. Zlatkovich Centennial Professor of Accounting. His research interests center on accounting standard setting and regulation, individual decision making, and behavioral finance, using techniques from applied game theory, experimental economics, and psychology. Since 2018, he has served as the Chair of the Standards Board at Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).
- Ivona Hideg (Speaker) is Associate Professor and Ann Brown Chair in Organization Studies at the Schulich School of Business at York University in Canada. She is currently serving as an Associate Editor at Academy of Management Journal. Ivona’s main program of research includes workplace diversity, equality, and inclusion with a focus on gender. She holds a Ph.D. from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. Ivona is also a proud mom of two young children.
- Amy Hillman (Speaker) is the Rusty Lyon Chair of Strategy and former Dean of the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. She is former Editor of Academy of Management Review and former Associate Editor of Academy of Management Journal. She received the Outstanding Educator Award from the Academy of Management in 2018 where she is also a Fellow and she’ll serve as AOM’s President in 2023.
- Andrew Karolyi (Speaker) is Professor of Finance and Harold Bierman Jr. Distinguished Professorship in Management at Cornell University’s SC Johnson College of Business. He currently serves as Acting Dean. Professor Karolyi served as Executive Editor of the Review of Financial Studies from 2011 to 2018, one of the top tier journals in Finance. He is currently past president of the Western Finance Association and a member of board of directors of the American Finance Association.
- Katherine (Kay) Lemon (Speaker) holds the Accenture Professorship in the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. She is currently Chair of the AMA Board of Directors. Her research examines drivers of firm growth from a customer perspective. She is an AMA Fellow. Lemon serves on the Board of Directors of Maple Leaf Foods, Inc., is the past editor of the Journal of Service Research and also served as Executive Director of the Marketing Science Institute.
- Jon Levin (Speaker) is the Philip H. Knight Professor Dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is an economist with interests in industrial organization, market design and the economics of technology. He has been a professor at Stanford for more than twenty years, and previously served as Chair of Stanford’s Department of Economics. He has received many recognitions for teaching and research, including the American Economic Association’s John Bates Clark Medal.
- Serguei Netessine (Moderator) is Vice-Dean for Global Initiatives and Dhirubhai Ambani Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Operations, Information and Decisions Department at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His current research focuses on business model innovation and operational excellence and he worked on these topics with numerous government and Fortune-500 organizations. He is a founding member and a member of the Executive Board of the Network for Responsible Research in Business and Management.
- Ansgar Richter (Speaker) is Dean of the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He earned his PhD from the London School of Economics, has worked with McKinsey & Company, and has significant international experience with business schools in Germany, the UK, France, the Netherlands, U.S.A., China, India and other countries. He has published in leading journals in the management field, and is a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Management and Long Range Planning.
- Mark Smith (Moderator) is incoming Director at University of Stellenbosch Business School (SA), and Professor HRM at Grenoble Ecole de Management (FR), where he was previously Dean. He has carried out research work for a number of European and National institutions. His research interests focus on careers and labour market policy & outcomes for women and men including working conditions, working-time, and work-life integration.
- Zhi-Xue Zhang (Speaker) is currently the president-elect of International Association for Chinese Management Research (IACMR). He is a professor of Organization and Strategic management, the director of Center for Research in Behavioral Science, and the director of Management Innovation Interdisciplinary Research Platform at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, China. Prof. Zhang’s research interests include Chinese leadership, team process, negotiation and conflict management, and cross-cultural management.
